Mission Speed: Rutgers WR Bo Melton Runs Fast Time at NFL Combine

The biggest goal for Rutgers wide receiver Bo Melton entering the 2022 NFL Combine was to show his speed. Melton did not shy away from letting everyone know that most teams had not witnessed his speed and the Combine would be his chance to put himself out for all to see.

On Thursday, Melton shined. He ran a 40-yard dash time that was officially recorded at 4.34. That time was the sixth fastest among this years' wide receiver group which is one of the deepest and most talented since 2019 when DK Metcalf, Deebo Samuels, AJ Brown, and six others were selected within the first two rounds of the NFL Draft.

Melton's time may have surprised some, but not his Scarlet Knights teammate and fellow Combine invitee, Isaih Pacheco. “I already know he is going to kill it, so I’m not worried about him,” the running back said.

Melton also recorded a 38-inch vertical jump and a 10′1″ broad jump, both of which are very respectable marks among the wide receiver group.

The Mays Landing native, who starred at Cedar Creek High School before committing to Rutgers, is hoping NFL teams see his versatility on the field. Melton could be used in a mold similar to the scheme the San Francisco 49ers have successfully done with Deebo Samuels. Melton has played all over the field at Rutgers including wide receiver, running back, and special teams.

Is Melton the next Scarlet Knight to be drafted?

The last Scarlet Knight to be drafted was Blessuan Austin in 2019. Melton's showing on Thursday should go a long way to making him the next Rutgers star to have his name called during the NFL Draft.
