For two sides that haven't met in NWSL competition since August, 2019, you would think there wouldn't be much of a rivalry. You couldn't be more wrong.
"I am really looking forward to playing the Thorns as the last time we faced them was in 2019 and I have fond memories as it was my first game with the club. Portland is a talented and experienced team that is hungry for silverware. They have a very talented midfield and are tight defensively so it will be tricky to break down," said Head Coach Freya Coombe.
NJ/NY Gotham FC aren't backing down from the always dangerous Portland Thorns. "We know Portland is a great team, there is no denying that, so we are ready for the challenge, we are excited and yeah I think it will just be a stepping stone for us for where we wanna be later in the season," said forward Paige Monaghan.
