Day One Public Sectional Championships Suspended

 

There were multiple day one track and field public sectional championships that were running behind and suspended until Saturday morning due to weather. The North 1 Groups 1 and 4 along with South Groups 1 and 4 were suspended. North 1 Groups 2 and 3 and North 2 Groups 2 and 3 were also running behind due to the weather. 

Even with all the weather problems in the North part of the state, North 2 Group 4 sectional had a great day one with two top 25 times in the USA and one of them being top 5. Nathaniel Rayan from Scotch Plains-Fanwood high school ran the 4th fastest time in the country, winning the  Boys 400 meter hurdles with a PR 52.57. 

Kerdel Moses from Linden high school was the other top 25 USA time, running a PR time in 53.30 in 400 meter hurdles. 

Rutgers Commit Jenal Berry from Scotch Plains-Fanwood high school won the Girls 800 meter run for the second year in a row in the North 2 Group 4 sectional. 

In the Central Groups, there were bigtime times from young stars. In Central Group 4, Anastasia Kudin, a sophomore from West Windsor Plainsboro South high school won the girls 400 meter hurdles with a top 10 state time in 1:03.76. 

In the Central Group 4 boys 100 meter dash, there were six PR top 25 state times with the winner Zach Della Rocca senior from Princeton high school running the fastest time of the day in the state at 10.40. 

With South Groups 1 and 4 being suspended, there were still amazing times in the day one events at South Groups 2 and 3. 

In the South Group 2 girls 100 meter dash, the top runners all ran personal bests and four out of the five were not seniors. Willingboro high school had two out of the five in sophomore Nester Wea and freshman in Kaila Speight.

Speight ran a 12.39 coming in 4th place, while Wea won the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.09 finishing with a top 10 of the day. 

In Girls North 1 Groups 1, Hasbrouck Heights was in 1st place at 30.50 points before the delay. Wallkill Valley high school was in 1st place of the Group 1 Boys with 48 points before the suspension. Morristown high school group 4 Girls was in 1st place with 41 points before the suspension, while Livingston high school group 4 Boys was in 1st place with 33.50 points before the suspension. 

In the North 1 Groups 2 Girls, River Dell high school was in 1st place with 44 points. NV-Demarest high school Group 2 Boys was in 1st place with 32 points at the end of day one. Mount Olive high school Group 3 Girls was in 1st place with 34 points, while NV - Old Tappan high school Group 3 Boys was in 1st place with 32 points at the end of day one. 

From North 2 Group 1 Girls and Boys, Whippany Park was in 1st place with 77 points for girls and 82 for boys at the end of day one. In the North 2 groups 4 Girls and Boys, Elizabeth high school was in 1st place with 61 points for the girls and 42 for the boys at the end of day one. 

In North 2 Group 2 Girls, Parsippany Hills high school was in 1st place with 43 points, while New Providence high school was in 1st place with 38 points in the Group 2 Boys at the end of day one. Somerville high school was in 1st place in Group 3 for the Girls with 53 points and Rahway high school was in 1st place in Groups for the Boys with 49 points at the end of day one. 

From the Central Group 1 Girls, Shore Regional high school was in 1st place with 55 points, while Jonathan Dayton was in 1st place for the Boys in Group 1 with 54 points. In Group 4 Girls, Hillsborough high school was in 1st place with 72.50 points, while South Brunswick was in 1st place in Group 4 for the Boys with 53 points.

In the Central Group 2 Girls, Rumson-Fair Haven high school was in 1st place with 49 points, while Voorhees high school was in 1st place for the Boys with 38 points at the end of day one. Colts Neck high school was in 1st place for the Girls and Boys in Group 3 with 37 points for both teams at the end of day one. 

From the South Group 2 Girls, Haddonfield Memorial was in 1st place with 66 points and Manchester Township high school was in 1st place for the Boys with 66 points at the end of day one. In South Group 3 Girls, Timber Creek was in 1st place with 42 points and Delsea was in 1st place for the Boys with 47 points at the end of day one. 

There were no live results from the suspension of South Groups 1 and 4.
