Defense shines as Gotham FC draws in Chicago

Stout defense was the storyline for Gotham FC as they would draw the Chicago Red Stars on a hot Saturday night in the Windy City.

"A tough game after the performance last week. We knew that Chicago would be wanting to rectify that with a good performance, would come out really hard. Credit to them that's what they did, with very much high pressure on us and unfortunately we didn't quite find our stride in terms of our possession as we normally do and that's a credit to them and the pressure they put us under," said Head Coach Freya Coombe.

Defense Stepped Up When Team Needed

It wasn't the best offensive showing for the team from Jersey but they would pitch the shutout and return home with a point towards their league standings.

"I think its always a sign of good team if you don't always play well and get some points," said Midfielder Allie Long.

Gotham FC will return home to Red Bull Arena, where it awaits a NWSL Challenge Cup Championship rematch with the Portland Thorns. That match will air on Paramount + and will be at 3pm ET on May 30.
