DRAGONS TOP MUSTANGS

Another girls soccer classic between in-town and A-South rivals Brick Memorial and Brick Township took place Wednesday night.

After a scoreless first 30 minutes the Dragons took advantage of a controversial call that resulted in Mustangs keeper Hailey Dietz getting a yellow card for protecting herself as a Brick forward ran into her.  Dani Christina stepped up and buried the penalty kick that also warranted some controversy as the Brick Memorial backup keeper was still getting ready when ref blew whistle to shoot.

The Mustangs answers a minute later as Angel Hernandez buried her own penalty kick to tie the score at 1-1.  Freshman Carly Knight scored her first varsity goal on a strike from 20 yards outvyo give Brick Memorial a 2-1 lead just before half.

Brick Township wasted no time to start the second half when Abby Kennelly headed in a rebound shot to tie the game at 2-2.  Reece Beggs would give the Dragons the go ahead goal at 3-2 with just over 15 minutes to play.

The win improves Brick to 10-3 overall and 4-2 in conference.  The loss drops Brick Memorial to 6-5 overall and 1-5 in conference.
