FDU-Florham beats Kean to improve to 3-0 on the season

With a goal by Mia Lopez early in the second half, the FDU-Florham Devils took the win over the Kean University Cougars to improve to 3-0 on the year. Kean fell 0-2-1 on the year after a slow start, but FDU is looking to be a dangerous squad in the MAC Freedom. Goalkeeper Erica Blackburn held down the defense with her second straight clean sheet of the season.

Including this match, FDU has scored four goals on the season and are expected to score 1.33 per game. They have also only conceded one goal, against Ramapo, for the first game of the season. The teams' goalkeepers have also tallied eight saves across three games.

Highlights

The lone goal of the match came at the 53:21 mark. Lopez received the ball from Ashley Dietrich and had a breakaway, slotting the ball in the back of the net. This marked Lopez's second goal of the season, and it was Dietrich's second assist of the season as well. Blackburn had three crucial saves during the match to allow FDU to secure the win. With both offensive players tallying their second goal and assist of the season, it shows promise that the squad can maintain its winning record.

Lopez is currently tied with teammate Daniella Conanan for lead goal scorer with two apiece. Blackburn leads the goalkeeping stats with only one goal against and eight saves on the season so far.

FDU tallied 15 shots on the day and held Kean to only four shots throughout the game. FDU also had seven corner kicks compared to Kean's one and three saves compared to Kean's six.

This is the first time the Devils have started the season 3-0 since 2019.
