First Place Patriots Take Four From Sea Dogs

New York Yankees Double-A affiliate Somerset Patriots took four of six games from the Portland Sea Dogs (Red Sox affiliate) this past week on a road trip to Hadlock Field in Maine.

At 31-16, Somerset now owns the best record in the Northeast League, five games ahead of Portland for first place in their division.

Hot Bats

Infielder Diego Castillo continued his dominant season, hitting .400 with four doubles, two home runs, and four RBI’s over the six game set. Castillo now leads the team with 45 hits and a .338 batting average this season.

Power hitting first baseman Dermis Garcia added two home runs during the series, and is now second in the league with 13 long balls.

Shortstop Oswald Peraza, Yankees #4 ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline, hit three doubles and registered four RBI’s during the series.

Pitchers Prevail

Janson Junk earned the win on Friday June 25th, throwing seven innings while allowing only one run on three hits. Junk’s 1.07 ERA as a starter now leads all of Minor League Baseball, and his 0.79 WHIP leads the league.

Hayden Wesneski threw six shutout innings, striking out seven and allowing only two hits in his start on Saturday night leading to a 3-0 Patriots win.

Righty reliever Stephen Ridings lowered his ERA this season to 0.53 with 2.1 perfect innings out of the bullpen throughout the series.

A Look Ahead

The Patriots will head to Harrisburg, PA for a six game set with the Senators (Nationals affiliate) beginning on Tuesday June 29th, before returning home for a series with the Erie SeaWolves (Tigers affiliate) starting on July 5th.
