Flynn, Six Monmouth Players Earn CAA Women's Soccer All-League Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – The 2022 Colonial Athletic Association Regular Season Champion Monmouth University women’s soccer team had six student-athletes and one coach named to the All-CAA teams and major awards, the league office announced Wednesday.

Monmouth became the first CAA member to win multiple regular season major honors in its inaugural campaign in the league since Hofstra in 2002. The Hawks had multiple major conference award winners for the seventh consecutive season as Jesi Rossman was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Year and Kylee Flynn was selected as one of the CAA Co-Coaches of the Year.

In her first year as the program’s head coach, Flynn led the Hawks to a 13-2-2 overall record, including an impressive 6-1-2 record in-conference which earned an outright CAA regular season title. Monmouth did not lose a CAA game at home all season, a great start to life in its new conference after going 74-6-6 all-time in the MAAC in nine seasons.

For the sixth straight season, Monmouth’s defense has produced a defensive player of the year award recipient. Rossman, a graduate student, will be remembered as the first CAA Defensive Player of the Year Award winner in school history, and it is the first time in her career she has won such an award. Rossman and Monmouth limited opponents to just seven goals in league play and 11 total in the regular season. She helped Monmouth finish 22nd in the nation in goals-against average, trailing only Towson (3rd) for stingiest back line in the CAA.

Rossman was the lone Hawk named to the 2022 All-CAA Women’s Soccer First Team. Along with her lockdown defense, she added five assists while starting all 17 games this season.

More Hawks Honored by CAA

Junior defender Lauren Bruno and sophomore goalkeeper Cassie Coster made the All-CAA Second Team. Bruno, playing alongside Rossman and adding two assists of her own, has earned her second career all-conference honors after making the All-MAAC Second Team in 2021. In Coster’s first season as Monmouth’s starting goalkeeper, she finished second in the conference in goals against average (0.597), save percentage (84.1%), and shutouts (9).

Lauren Karabin and Maddison Perna, both New Jersey natives, were named to the All-CAA Third Team. Both Karabin and Perna scored four goals each for Monmouth in 2022. Karabin, who started all 17 games, added six assists, while Perna added one in 15 games.

Freshman forward Summer Reimet was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team providing five goals, which was tied for the team lead, and three assists in 2022.

The Hawks return to action in the CAA Championship quarterfinals when they host eighth-seeded Hofstra on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 3 p.m.
