Freehold Township wins first-ever sectional title after win over Jackson

Freehold Township faced the Jackson Jaguars in the Central Group 4 State softball finals. Freehold Township came in with an 18-4 record, while Jackson was sporting a 20-6 record heading into the matchup.

Jackson starting pitching Sophia Lopiccolo had early nerves to start the game giving up three runs in the first inning. Freehold saw the pitches, worked the count, ran up pitch counts, and made contact when needed. Olivia Smith, Lia Williams, and Sienna Smith all had a big impact with the three runs. It was a walk, a two-run double, and an RBI single. For Freehold Township to score runs early against a pitcher like Sophia was huge for them.

Nikki Lusina pitched a complete game for Freehold, allowing five runs with eight strikeouts against the Jackson offense. She was locked in from the beginning painting the corners. Lusina and the catcher had great chemistry throughout the game, and their game plan worked. She also had a great day swinging the bat with a home run to help her cause in the start.

Freehold Township Advances To The Championship Game

After Friday's 8-5 win over Jackson with great pitching and balanced offense, they advance to the biggest game of their career. What a great moment for these young talented players to represent the Freehold community and have a chance to win a trophy for them. The coach pumped them up by keeping their composure at a high level.
