Long Branch’s Summer Sesty In Nbc’s Newest Game Show, Genius Junior By Lou Monaco

LONG BRANCH  Think back to your childhood what were you doing at the age of 11?

Well, I can tell you what Long Branch-native Summer Sesty is doing.

She is continuing to utilize and broaden her wealth of knowledge on a television show called Genius Junior, NBC’s newest game show hosted by former child TV prodigy “Doggie Howser, MD” himself, Neil Patrick Harris. The show made its broadcast debut on Sunday night.

Summer’s episode, as a member of Team 27 Yards, is set to be aired on Sunday, Apr. 29.

The game consists of 12 teams with three kids on each, ranging from kids eight to 12, to compete against each other in in a wide array of difficult and intriguing quizzes.

To be one of the lucky 36 participants, Summer had to pass numerous tests which included Skype and phone interviews, where show producers asked spot-on quizzes to Summer and where she had to answer correctly in order to prequalify.

“When the cameras start rolling, the pressure is on. Pressure does not phase me though, that’s when I do my best,” Sesty said.

Once prequalified, it was off to Warner Brothers Studios in California for the Sesty family.

What do the winners get? They are crowned Genius Junior and will receive a financial grant.

There are not enough words in all of the languages of the world to express how incredibly proud we are of our daughter Summer. We are in ultimate awe of her,” said Summer’s parents Victoria and Bill. “She is dedicated and devoted to always reaching her goals, she has been since she was a mere child. We are so truly excited to be on this journey with Summer!”

And get this! The multi-faceted sixth-grader, who attends Long Branch Middle School, is also a bronze gymnast at Ace Gymnastics in Ocean Township, an aspiring author who once had a haiku published in Young American Poetry Digest, and even participated in earlier this month in the regional Scripps National Spelling Bee at Monmouth University's Pollak Theatre, where she finished tied for fifth-place out of 104 kids.

“My 100% favorite class is ELA because I absolutely love to read and write. I’ve been writing since third grade, and at this point, I have been working on about 15 manuscripts,” said Sesty. “My favorite types of stories to write are fiction, and once in a while, I write realistic fiction. Coming out of this show, I would love to have the opportunity to have some of my finished manuscripts published. Doing another TV show wouldn't be bad either!”

Summer’s parents echoed those sentiments.

“By Summer being on Genius Junior, we can only hope that this will make her dream come true to be on the New York Times best-seller list and also open doors to a whole world of new opportunities. We are so truly proud of Summer and love her dearly!”
