Georgian Court women's soccer falls to Adelphi

Georgian Court Lions Women's Soccer team fell to Adelphi in their home opener on Wednesday, 6-0, to fall to 1-1-1 on the season. The defense struggled for Georgian Court as they couldn't stop Victoria Colatosti, who scored two goals for Adelphi. Georgian Court could not get anything going on offense the whole game as the Lions struggled to get shots on goal.

Adelphi (2-1) got on the board as Colatosti opened the scoring with a goal 55 seconds into the game. Madison Apicella doubled Adelphi's lead 28 minutes into the game, then Carly Issing made it 3-0 three minutes later. Georgian Court struggled to stay onsides during the game, taking away goal-scoring opportunities for the Lions. At halftime, both teams were trying to devise ways to stay consistent and change the offensive/defensive approach.

Both teams made multiple substitutions during halftime as they tried to change things to start the second half. The fouls continued to pile up, similar to the first half. Colatosti notched her second goal of the game for Adelphi at the 59:31 mark to make it 4-0. Then at the 75:50 mark, Gia Mandile extended the lead to 5-0 against Georgian Court. Kendra Jimenez closed out the scoring in the game's waning moments to finish it at 6-0.

Adelphi played excellent team soccer today, found the open shots when needed, got contributions from different players, and took advantage of Georgian Court fouls. The Lions need to do a better job cutting down on the fouls and being more consistent. This was a tough test for them coming in and they will learn from this loss to get better.

Colatosti had a standout game for Adelphi as she scored a pair of goals. She has great footwork, got to her spots before scoring the goals and kept Georgian Court's defense thinking the whole game. Colatosi will be one to watch in the NE-10 this season if she continues her goal-scoring ways into conference play.

The Georgian Court Lions have to look at the film to see what went wrong against Adelphi, fix the simple mistakes and get better on defense. If they do all that, then they will be fine.
