Giants Preseason Week 1 Recap

Meadowlands, NJ- The Giants vs. Jets, preseason week 1, is officially in the books. You know the drill, it's time to unpack this game.

Giants 7    Jets 12

Offense

  • They struggled early on with their 1st quarter drives ending with a punt, punt, fumble (Corey Clement), punt, punt.
  • Pass protection needs WORK, and that is an understatement. They allowed five sacks.
  • Right Guard, Kenny Wiggins really struggled. It was like all of the first half, he was just being trampled on.
  • WR, David Sills, impressed by hauling in a 37-yarder from Clayton Thorson just before the end of the half.
  • Glennon and Thorson struggled in the passing game as they went for 3/7 and 5/16.
  • Sandro Platzgummer, from Austria, had an amazing run for 48 yards.
  • Giants found their only touchdown to come after an amazing defensive play by T.J. Brunson and Rodarius Williams. Clayton Thorson threw a 21-yard touchdown from the Jet's 17-yard line to Damion Willis.

Defense

  • The starting defense did not see the field, however, their direct backups, who will most likely take their place often throughout the season, saw a lot of action.
  • Danny Shelton made big stops on a third-and-1 and a fourth-and-1.
  • Carter Coughlin shined. He tallied five tackles, a tackle for loss, and a strip-sack
  • T.J. Brunson forced a fumble near midfield. It was scooped up by Rodaruis Williams, who returned it to the Jet's 17th-yard line to set up the Giants' first and only touchdown.

Injuries

  • Kyle Murphy, right tackle, left the game after the first half with an ankle injury
  • Cole Hikutini, tight end, left the game with a hip injury
