Glenn Otto Dazzles In Somerset Patriots Debut

It had been 651 days since Glenn Otto Jr. took the mound in a professional baseball game, and he did not disappoint when he finally stepped on the rubber for the New York Yankees Double-A Somerset Patriots on Saturday night.

Otto went six innings, allowing only two hits, one walk, and striking out six batters at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, NJ. The Patriots moved to 4-1 on the season with the victory over the Harrisburg Senators behind Otto’s pitching, assisted by an RBI from Tommy Milone and heads up baserunning by Hoy Park.

“It was a lot of fun,” Otto told the media after the game. “I don't think I could have drawn it up any better myself… the fans being in the stands, although it's limited capacity... (make) everything a lot more fun.”

Patriots Manager Julio Mosquera had high praise for his starter, “Glenn Otto is a competitor,” he said. “He’s going to go out there and give you everything he has every single day…and he's going to develop into a real big league pitcher.”

Otto, a 2017 fifth round pick by the Yankees, has posted a 2.85 ERA over his three seasons in the Yanks' system.

“He mixes his pitches a lot,” Mosquera said. “He's got a really good slider, a really good breaking ball and utilizes his change up with some hitters to get them off balanced.”

“I think we're really playing well as a team right now,” Otto added. “I’m looking forward to the next time out and hoping we can keep rolling.”

The final game of the Somerset Patriots series against the Harrisburg Senators is Sunday at 1:05 PM. Follow along on Jersey Sporting News all season long to stay on top of Minor League Baseball in New Jersey.
