Gotham FC's Kristie Mewis, Margaret Purce called up to USWNT summer roster

Kristie Mewis and Margaret Purce will lace their cleats up for the U.S. Women's National Team once more. The two NJ/NY Gotham FC players were called to compete in summer friendlies and the 2022 Concacaf W Championship.

Mewis (38 caps, five goals) and Purce (14 caps, three goals) have amassed nearly 1,000 combined minutes for Gotham FC this season in six games. Although Gotham FC currently sits in seventh place in the NWSL, Mewis and Purce have played well.

Mewis has shown remarkable resilience with the USWNT, as she returned to international duty several years after her initial call-up. The 31-year-old midfielder joined Gotham FC before the 2022 season after being traded from San Diego Wave.

Purce was first called up in 2018 and has picked up three assists to add to her two goals for the USWNT. She was traded to Gotham in 2020 and has 14 career goals for the club.

The USWNT will play two matches against Colombia in Colorado and Utah, then travel to Mexico for the Concacaf W Championship. The team is in Group A for the tournament and will face Haiti (July 4), Jamaica (July 7), and Mexico (July 11). The semifinals will be played on Thursday, July 14 and the third-place match and championship game are on Monday, July 18.

After round-robin play, the top two teams in each group advance to the semifinals and earn World Cup berths. The tournament's winner gets an automatic berth to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Other notable call-ups include the return of Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe and the first-time call-up for midfielder Taylor Kornieck.
