How many Championships can Reid and Mahomes Win?

The Kansas City Chiefs have now won two Super Bowl championships in four years under the fine duo of head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes. They also have made it to five straight AFC title games and participated in three Super Bowls.

There’s no question they are not done yet. Mahomes is in his prime at 27, and Reid is 64. They could win more championships before their stories are finished.

It was laughable to hear that Reid may retire because why would he retire when he knows he can win many more championships? The wise old man is not leaving a machine while it’s functioning properly, especially when the Chiefs can replenish talent, both in the draft and free agency.

Reid and Mahomes could make history. They could pass the duo of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady for championships at six. It’s something that will motivate this duo for a long time. It’s a story that everyone will keep tracking as long as they are around.

Reid has certainly come a long way from a head coach who could not win a big game to a coach who has won multiple championships. As head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, he went 1-4 in NFC title games. As a Chiefs head coach, he is 3-2 in the AFC title games and 2-1 in the Super Bowl.

We always knew he could coach offense. He displayed that by unleashing Kadarius Toney, Jerick McKinnon and Vineland’s own Isiah Pacheco in the second half, which helped the Chiefs rally from a 24-14 halftime deficit to a 38-35 victory. He created new offensive wrinkles that threw off Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon.

Reid knows how to maximize the talent of a quarterback. Look at how much he won with players such as Donovan McNabb, Jeff Garcia, Michael Vick, Kevin Kolb, A.J. Feeley and Alex Smith. It’s his calling card. He has done it again with Mahomes. He inserted his current quarterback five seasons ago, and the Chiefs have not looked back.

Reid’s impact on the Chiefs shows on the scoreboard, standings and championships.

He stamped his ticket to the Hall of Fame when the Chiefs won the Super Bowl a few years ago. He needed a championship to get there. He has established himself as a great coach. There’s no way anyone can question him anymore.

Now, it’s about how many more championships he can finish his career with. The bar is going to be high for him. It should be when he has Mahomes as a quarterback and a loaded roster on offense and defense.

Just winning two won’t be enough anymore. For Reid to be considered one of the greatest coaches of all time, he has to win at least four or five championships. There’s a reason Reid won’t be retiring anytime soon. He knows he can make history of his own. He wants to be remembered in the same vein as Vince Lombardi and Bill Belichick.

Mahomes is chasing history of his own as he looks to surpass Tom Brady as the greatest quarterback of all time. For that to happen, he has to top Brady's seven Super Bowl titles. It was so imperative that he won a Super Bowl on Sunday to start the countdown. Yes, it may be early to start the countdown, but there’s no time to waste when he is in his prime.

He set a high standard with his great play that everyone now expects more consistently. With him being the flagship player of the NFL, all eyes are going to be on him to do more. The Kansas Chiefs star seems to embrace his situation. Like Reid, he will get his chance to put his imprint in record books. He is at the age where he can get it done. He has 10 good years in him. He is durable enough to play for a long time.

It won’t be easy. It’s hard to win every year, let alone go to the Super Bowl. He’s in a tough AFC conference that boasts great quarterbacks such as Joe Burrow, Josh Allen and Justin Herbert. However, he can enhance his legacy by beating them as often as he can. He can be the hurdle for Burrow, Allen and Herbert just like Brady was for Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger and Philip Rivers.

Mahomes is now the signature American athlete of the next generation. He is so entertaining. He conducts himself with so much class that we would want and expect from others. He is a guy that everyone wants to watch. He has us asking for more. There’s a good chance he and the Chiefs could be the first NFL team to have all 18 games on national television because of how great he is. He represents greatness and excellence.

With him, it’s all about legacy moving forward. It’s about him replacing Brady as the greatest quarterback of all time. Records are meant to be broken, and history has been meant to be made. Mahomes will likely get personal records and plenty more accolades, but that should not be the be-all and end-all. He knows as much as anyone it’s about how many championships he can accumulate. He knows two won’t be enough. He is ambitious enough to keep striving to be the best he can be.

All eyes are going to be on Reid and Mahomes for the next seven years. There’s going to be pressure. It should be the good kind that they should embrace. The Chiefs have a chance to produce the next dynasty in the NFL.

They can certainly do it. They are great at their craft. For them to create standards and high expectations, that’s a credit to them.
