Jets Have Talked to Aaron Rodgers, Packers About Potential Trade

The New York Jets are not messing around when it comes to finding a veteran quarterback, and since the offseason started, their sights have been on one man, Aaron Rodgers. It was reported late Monday night that the Jets were given permission to speak with Rodgers and the Packers about a potential trade for the future hall-of-famer. According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, talks between the Jets and Rodgers were to continue today, but it is unclear whether those talks will ultimately result in a trade happening.

Aaron Rodgers, 39, is still is undecided on what his future holds, as he is weighing all of his options. Rodgers recently took a "darkness retreat" in southern Oregon, four days of total isolation from social media, and the world around him. Taking time away and clearing his head while he ponders his next move. Now out of the Oregonian darkness, Rodgers has a decision to make, and the timeframe is still unknown.

The Jets have looked at Derek Carr and expressed strong interest in his services before he signed with the Saints Monday. He was their second choice and always were willing to wait for Rodgers and his decision. Jets owner Woody Johnson feels that Aaron Rodgers can help this team win a Super Bowl , and will do whatever it takes to land him. With the league year starting next Wednesday, The team would like to have their search for their new signal caller wrapped up so they can focus on filling other roster holes, but it seems that nothing is imminent as of now.

If a deal were to happen, the Jets would endure Rodgers very large and very complicated contract. He has a whopping $59.5 million in total guarantees this season that is payable before the start of the regular season. However, his $15.8 million cap hit for 2023 is very manageable. After 2023, he will be 40 years old, and will have a $32.5 million cap charge with void years in 2025 and 2026.

What the compensation would look like for Rodgers to be sent to Gotham City still remains unknown, with that being said, the Jets are willing and able to pay the price. They will spare no expense and leave no stone unturned  to make this deal happen. The same way they made the trade to sway another legendary Packers quarterback to come to gang green, Brett Favre in 2008. The wheels are in motion for the foundations of a trade to be made, both sides will continue talks and try to come to a solution. The ball is as it usually is, in Aaron Rodgers hands now, and what he decides to do with it remains to be seen.
