High School Sports Reporter

Job purpose

Jersey Sporting News is in search of qualified reporters with an interest in covering local news and sports in the community and surrounding areas.

With a focus on sports throughout New Jersey, reporters must be able to attend some games and events in person. All work is done remotely as we do not have a central headquarters. We strive to provide our readers with engaging and up-to-date sports content via game coverage as well as feature stories and interviews.

Expectations

The ideal candidate would be an enthusiastic, detailed and dynamic writer, reporting and publishing high school sports content including news and feature stories for JSN. The journalist must embrace social media, including digital and video components.

Additionally, reporters are expected to:

· Create a story that accurately informs, entertains and engages specific audiences and platforms through the use of metrics. Works toward becoming the community’s leading voice in area of expertise.

· Tell a strong story that connects with readers through the articles you produce, as well as through our social media platforms.

Candidates should have the knowledge and ability to cover high school sports county by county.

Qualifications

Interested candidates must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this position:

· Previous news or sports writing experience preferred, but not required. Students welcome.

· Resident of New Jersey or nearby state preferred.

· Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills.

· Self-starter who can take direction and contribute ideas for stories.

· The ability to work independently on projects while meeting deadlines.

· Community development knowledge/experience a plus.
