MAAC Tournament Open To 'Limited Friends and Families'

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced Friday it will allow a limited number of 'Friends and Families' of the basketball programs to attend the conference tournament. The conference will not sell tickets to the general public.

The men's and women's tournaments will be held March 8-13 at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ.

The event capacity will include all participants, essential staff and family members of each participating team's student-athletes and coaches. Limits will be held to 10%  of Boardwalk Hall's capacity. Governor Phil Murphy announced the increased capacity limits earlier this week as New Jersey continues to see the number of COVID-19 cases decline.

"It is great that the recent executive order lifting attendance limits in athletic venues will allow us to accommodate a limited number of 'Friend and Families' of the teams, particularly the parents, siblings and children of the student-athletes and the coaching staffs," said Rich Ensor, MAAC Commissioner.

Social Distance Guidelines for MAAC Tournament

All attendees must wear face coverings and physically distance during the event. Thorough cleaning, disinfecting and safety measures will be a priority at the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.

Despite restrictions, the MAAC was able to complete a successful basketball season due in large part to COVID-19 risk mitigation strategies, including appropriate testing.

The MAAC tournaments will be the first event in Boardwalk Hall since last March when the pandemic abruptly shut down events across the county, including March Madness.

The MAAC, which has it's headquarters in Edison, has three schools from the state; Monmouth, Rider, and Saint Peter's. Jersey Sporting News will have full coverage of both the men's and women's tournaments.
