Monmouth Drops Seven-Round Shoot Out to Hofstra in CAA Quarterfinals

Monmouth Women's Soccer faced Hofstra Thursday in the CAA Quarterfinals, which was a big matchup for both teams that ended in a seven-round shoot out.

Hofstra made it tough for Monmouth the whole game, made it competitive and didn't give up anything easy on the pitch. Monmouth's defense was also good, but gave up an early goal in the first half. Both teams had 26 shots, 12 shots on goal, 10 saves, 27 fouls and 10 corners combined.

Hofstra started off the scoring at the 10th minute from Anja Suttner who scored her sixth goal of the season bottom left of goal off right foot making it 1-0 against Monmouth. Hofstra tried to get spacing on offense but Monmouth's defense tightened up more after giving up that goal. Hofstra had some good shots, good passes on the ball from players to set up more goals in the first half but couldn't take advantage. The defense was able to hold the 1-0 lead into halftime with their goalie Skylar Kuzmich making key saves.

Monmouth came out in the second half more aggressive with the attack on both sides of the ball, traping Hofstra's offense, getting much better shot attempts setting up good balls for the goal and changing up the game plan in a big way to catch Hofstra off guard a little bit. Cassie Coster goalie for Monmouth had two huge saves on one penalty kick from Hofstra that gave momentum to them. Then at the 61st minute Monmouth tied it up at 1-1 from Summer Reimet who scored her sixth goal of the season bottom right of goal off right foot and assisted by A'liah Moore.

Both teams then started to play more aggressive on defense keeping the score at 1-1, trying to get clean tackles, making key clears, the goalies moving around more, not giving up easy shots and getting in front of the ball. Monmouth had chances to win this game with seven corner kicks but had trouble capitalizing on those. It went to down to the wire as this game ended up going into overtime after the 90th minute ran out.
