Monmouth women's soccer defeats Delaware

Monmouth Women's Soccer improved to (11-2-2,4-1-2) on the season as they beat Delaware, 3-1, in crazy weather conditions in West Long Branch. Coach Kylee Flynn has Monmouth playing at a high level right now as the Hawks have been one of the top teams in the CAA all season. They played great defense against the Blue Hens, while goalkeeper Cassie Coster is had another fantastic match in goal. Monmouth was also locked in on the offensive side as they were able to get easy shots and scored three goals.

Coster had four saves and allowed only one goal for Monmouth as she continued her strong season in the CAA. The sophomore goalkeeper made the whole defense better and was still able to make incredible saves in tough conditions. Monmouth's defense gave up a total of eight shots and two corner kicks against Delaware in the game. The Blue Hens had trouble finding good shots against the Hawks' defense but had some opportunities.

Monmouth's offense had a total of 17 shots against Delaware with 14 of them coming in the first half. Senior midfielder Julia Evernham got things started for Monmouth as she scored her third goal of the season at the 29:10 mark of the match. She was assisted by Jesi Rossman and Maddison Perna. Seven minutes later, Perna doubled Monmouth's lead with her third goal of the season and was assisted by Rachel Ludwick.

Graduate student forward A'liah Moore scored her fourth goal of the season at the 51:23 mark to extend the lead to 3-0 and was assisted by Rossman, her second assist of the match. Two minutes after Moore's goal, Delaware was able to finally get on the board as Lea Panagiotidis scored her second goal of the season. She was assisted by Izzy Lane and Lauren Elwell.

Monmouth's defense and offense were the stories of this game as they stuck to the game plan against Delaware. The weather conditions made the match tougher, but the Hawks found ways to win as they received contributions from different players. The Woman of the Match goes to Rossman who had a pair of assists and played solid defense throughout. The graduate student defender has been solid all season long for the Hawks as she has been part of a defense that has only allowed ten goals this season.
