Local N.J. boxers fill Abella Card April 1 in Paramus

Pinebrook's Nicky "The Bull" Vitone's boxing career has taken him across the East Coast, from Philadelphia to Atlanta to Rock Hill, S.C, and back. But for the Denville native and Pine Brook resident, there's no place like home.

“I'm very excited to be back fighting in my home state of New Jersey,” Vitone said in a statement. “I’m glad to be back with Abella Boxing Promotions.”

Those travels have helped the super lightweight amass a 9-1-1 record. He was the main event in local promoter Abella's debut event at The Terrace & Biagio's Ristorante in Paramus last April, and it's special for him to return to that venue for his bout, against an opponent still to be determined, fronting the card on April 1.

“It was a true honor headlining the main event for their first show," added the 26 year old. "Excited to show Jersey who I am, this is just the beginning.”

New Jersey and New York fighters dot the nine-bout "Bergen County Fight Night 3" card. Jersey City's Mike "The Champ" Lee, sporting a 9-2 record, battles Adam Kipenga (11-3-1) in a six-round super welterweight bout, and John "Bodyshot" Leonardo (9-1-1) of Englishtown will take on a TBD opponent in a six-round super bantamweight clash.

Other New Jerseyans on the card include Lodi's Jake "Poison" Ivery (1-2-0) in a four-round middleweight vs. Kevin Spraggs, Bergenfield's Kevin Hernandez (0-0-1) vs. Tyrell Cook in a welterweight clash and Dan Guerrero of Ridgefield Park making his pro boxing debut against a TBD super middleweight.

“We debuted last April at The Terrace and we’re happy to be back where it all started,” noted Scott Abella, promoter. “Shows like this are the backbone of the sport. I want to give people in this county, and in this town, a great event, and an exciting night to go out and enjoy themselves."
