Former New Jersey Girls Basketball Stars to Watch in NCAA Tournament

It's March Madness season! The NCAA Division 1 Women's Basketball Tournament bracket was released on Monday. As is the case in the men's tournament, Rutgers is the lone New Jersey school that received a bid to the tournament. The Scarlet Knights landed a No. 6 seed and will play a first round game against No. 11 seed BYU on Monday, March 22.

Outside of Rutgers, if you are looking for some individual players to root for, we have a list of New Jersey girls basketball players now on rosters of teams competing in the NCAA Tournament.

Wright State

Gabrielle Redden - Rutgers Prep - Hillsborough, NJ

Redden began her collegiate career at Marist College before transferring to Wright State. Now a senior, the forward, has appeared in 11 games. She is averaging 1.5 points per game. 

Oregon

Kylee Watson - Mainland HS - Linwood, NJ

The 2020 New Jersey Gatorade state player of the year has appeared in 16 games this season as a freshman. She is averaging 2.3 points and 1.3 rebounds for the Ducks.

Drexel

Tori Hyduke - Rumson-Fair Haven - Fair Haven, NJ

Transferred to Drexel after two seasons at George Washington University. The redshirt sophomore guard has appeared in 16 games, averaging 2.9 points and one rebound per contest.

Northwestern

Brooke Pikiell - Rutgers Prep - Far Hills, NJ

Brooke is the daughter of Rutgers men's basketball head coach Steve Pikiell. Now a senior, Brooke has appeared in ten games this season but has not scored a point.

Anna Morris - Immaculate Heart - Mahwah, NJ

McDonald's High School All American Nominee 2019 at Immaculate Heart High School. Now a freshman, Morris is averaging 2.2 points and 1.1 rebounds in 20 games played for the Wildcats.

Central Florida

Breyanna Frazier - Marist HS - Jersey City, NJ

Member of the 1,000-point club at Marist High School. Frazier redshirted her freshman year and has not appeared in a game this season.

Maniya Custis - Trenton Catholic - Camden, NJ

The freshman guard has appeared in three games this season and scored three points.

Marist

Allie Best - Voorhees HS - Glen Gardner, NJ

Best has started all 21 games for the Red Foxes. The senior is averaging 7.9 points and 2.9 rebounds per game. A true pass-first point guard, Best has registered 110 assists this season. She is also the teams best three-point threat, shooting 38% from long range.

Emma Wax - Montville - Pine Brook, NJ

Wax has appeared in 16 games her freshman season, averaging 1.7 points in 6.1 minutes.

Lehigh

Katie Rice - Red Bank Catholic - Red Bank, NJ

The junior guard has averaged 6.7 minutes while appearing in all 15 games this season. She has scored eight points.

Fabienne Eggenschwiler - Red Bank Catholic - Tinton Falls, NJ

Has appeared in five games for an average of 1.2 minutes. The freshman has scored three points this season.

UCLA

Dominique Darius - Blair Academy - Jacksonville, FL

Darius is a Jacksonville, Florida native that played high school ball at Blair Academy in New Jersey. As a freshman she has appeared in 14 games. Darius is averaging 2.4 points and 1.1 rebounds per contest this season.

Maryland

Diamond Miller - Franklin HS - Somerset, NJ

Miller has started all 26 games for the Terps during her sophomore year. She is averaging 17.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game as a well rounded star.

Faith Masonius - Manasquan HS - Spring Lake, NJ

The sophomore guard/forward has appeared in all 26 games, making one start this season. She is averaging 6.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per contest.

Michigan

Michelle Sidor - Saddle River Day HS - Upper Saddle River, NJ

Sophomore guard is averaging 2.3 points and one rebound per game off the bench this season. She has appeared in 14 games.

Virginia Tech

Azana Baines - Gloucester Catholic HS - Blackwood, NJ

Baines finished her high school career with 1,751 points before attending Duke University. After one year at Duke, she transferred to Virginia Tech. She had to sit out the first seven games of the seaosn until her transfer waiver was approved. She has appeared in 16 games this season including 14 starts for the Hokies. Baines is averaging 6.4 points and 5.9 rebounds this season.

North Carolina A&T

Nina Worthey - Roselle Catholic - North Plainfield, NJ

The freshman forward has not appeared in any games this season.

Virginia Commonwealth

Tera Reed - Life Center Academy - Auckland, New Zealand

Averaged 16.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals at Life Center Academy in New Jersey in 2015-16. The senior guard is the second leading scorer on VCU this season at 11.5 points per game. She also averages five rebounds per contest and leads the team with 85 assists.

Jenna Nelson - The King's Christian School - Blackwood, NJ

Sophomore guard has appeared in two games this season.
