NJ/NY Gotham FC draws with Orlando Pride

It was anyone's match on a humid Sunday night in Orando and the result showed that with the match ending in a 1-1 tie.

Gotham FC would get the scoring started late in the first half, when Ifeoma Onumonu would find an open Caprice Dydasco who would play the ball off the left post over the head of Orlando Goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris into the back of net. Orlando would find a way to equalize in the closing minutes of the match, with both teams coming away with 1 point towards their league standings.

“It was a bit of a tricky match. Obviously it’s never easy coming down to these tropical conditions. We didn’t give a good account of ourselves in the first half. We made it too easy for them to recover the ball. We weren’t good enough in possession and moving the ball. A bit more of pleasing second half for sure, but didn’t make good enough decisions in those final closing moments to be able to see out the win and I think that’s an area for our growth,” said Head Coach Freya Coombe.

It looked for the majority of the second half that Gotham FC would leave Orlando with the win and the three points, but it was a miscommunication on defense that would allow the late Orlando goal.

"Tough, tough game for us. I definitely think we had our moments, second half we did a little bit better transitioning going forward, we found a lot of space in the middle and then going on the outside but we didn't manage the game when we could have towards the end of the game and got punished for it. We just gotta do better next time," said defender Gina Lewandowski.
