NJ/NY Gotham FC lose in controversial fashion in Tacoma

Gotham FC road undefeated streak would come to an end late Saturday night in Tacoma.

In a night which would see the return of Olympians Evelyne Viens and Carli Lloyd for Gotham FC, it would be OL Reign who would be the victors in the final regular season match between the two sides.

The away team would get the scoring started off in the 9th minute when Elizabeth Eddy would send in a pass intended for Carli Lloyd, however Ifeoma Onumonu would find the deflection and send it in the back of the net to make the score 1-0. Less than 10 minutes later, it would be Onumonu again to find the back of the net when Nahomi Kawasumi would find her making a run in the box to make it 2-0 heading into the locker room at halftime. In the second half, OL Reign would answer off a corner kick in the 57th minute to make the score 2-1. This would be followed by two controversial penalty kicks in the 77th minute and in stoppage time to make the score 3-2. There would be no stoppage time heroics for Gotham FC as they would fall on the first time on the road this season.

Gotham FC continues it's roadtrip in the Pacific Northwest when it visits the Portland Thorns on Wednesday, August 25. That match will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network at 10:30pm ET.
