NJ/NY Gotham FC ready for showdown with Spirit

NJ/NY Gotham FC will be looking to make a statement when it rolls into Washington, D. C. Tuesday night for a pivotal match-up with the Washington Spirit. A win would put NJ/NY Gotham FC one step closer to playing in a championship game, something that the club hasn't been able to do in twelve years.

The difference maker for Gotham FC has proven to be forward Ifeoma Onumonu, who has both the assists on the game winners in their previous two Challenge Cup games. "Going into our upcoming game against the Washington Spirit, it is going to be a hard one. It's always been difficult to play the Spirit for us, but I'm optimistic about it and I think we're starting to find a rhythm within the team," said Onumonu.

NJ/NY Gotham FC Historically Successful Against Spirit

The Spirit and Gotham have linked up on the pitch four times so far since the start of last year's Challenge Cup with Gotham FC winning three out of four.

"The players are excited again to continue to build on some momentum. I think this is a big game for us as they all are, in order for us to continue gaining momentum that we've had and to continue having success," said Head Coach Freya Coombe.

Kickoff is set for 7pm ET and it will be broadcast on Paramount+.
