Rutgers, Princeton Host NCAA Tournament First Round, Monmouth Heads to Penn State

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights, despite falling in the Big Ten Tournament Championship game on Sunday received a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament. The bracket was announced Monday evening and Rutgers will have the opportunity to host the tournament up until the College Cup, if they stay in that long.

The Scarlet Knights host Bucknell in the first round, Saturday at 4 pm at Yurcak Field in Piscataway. The No. 1 seed is the highest in program history. That accomplishment is the latest in a historic season for Rutgers. Going undefeated in the Big Ten regular season, the Scarlet Knights became the first Big Ten team to complete a flawless mark in league play since 2005. 15 regular season victories and 10 conference triumphs are the most ever for the program. The talented roster, many of which are from right here in New Jersey set program-record totals of 55 goals, 53 assists and 163 points.

If Rutgers gets past Bucknell, they would play the winner of Ole Miss and Saint Louis on November 19. The other seeded team in the bracket with Rutgers is No. 4 TCU. The Horned Frogs host Prairie View on Friday in the First Round.

Also in their side of the bracket is Vermont and fellow New Jersey squad, Princeton. The Tigers finished the regular season 14-2-1. A win over Vermont would keep Princeton close to home as they would face the winner of TCU and Prairie View, with the game being played at Rutgers.

A third team from New Jersey received a bid to the NCAA Tournament - the Monmouth Hawks. After winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament title, Monmouth will travel to Penn State to take on the Nittany Lions on Friday at 6pm. The winner of the game will move on to play the winner of USC and Grand Canyon.
