Patriots wins fourth straight series after taking down Phils

The Somerset Patriots have been red hot all season as they won their fourth straight series this season. The Patriots faced off against the Reading Fightin' Phils, winning five of the six games in the series. The series was the second time these two teams have faced off this season. Somerset has won both series against Reading and holds a 7-2 record against them this season.

Offensively Somerset was led by Anthony Volpe, Oliver Dunn, Max Burt, and Elijah Dunham. Anthony Volpe played some of his best games this season in the series where he went 7-for-18, with 3 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBIs, 5 R, and 4 SB. Volpe has shown how fast he is as well, leading the Eastern League with 18 stolen bases. Oliver Dunn went 7 for 13 in the series with 2 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 5 RBIs, and 4 R.

Dunn just came back from injury ten days ago and has been one of the best hitters for Somerset since. Max Burt has struggled this season but played his best baseball in the series against Reading. The infielder went 7-for-16, with 3 2B, 1 HR, 5 RBIs, 7 R, and 2 SB. Elijah Dunham was a machine tallying eight RBIs in the series. He also hit 3 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, and 3 R. An honorable mention from the series was Josh Breaux, who hit two home runs and had 4 RBIs.

Jhony Brito and Josh Maciejewski both stood out for the Patriots on the mound. Brito started two games in the series, where he pitched 11 shutout innings while allowing just one run. Brito has been one of the Eastern League's best starting pitchers this season, where he leads the league in ERA with a 1.24, five earned runs, and tied for the second-most wins with four on the season. Josh Maciejewski, who struggled in April, has turned it around in May. In the series against Reading, he pitched 3 2/3 innings, giving up two hits and striking out seven. In May, Josh has pitched 9 2/3 innings, striking out 17, and hasn't given up a run.

Somerset has been the best team in Double-A this season with their 26-12 record. Somerset leads the Eastern League in home runs (53), runs scored (207), and RBIs (196). They also have the best pitching staff in the Eastern League as they lead in ERA (3.04). They also lead in the least amount of hits allowed (245), runs allowed (137), and earned runs allowed (113).

The Patriots will head to Portland to face off against the 19-20 Portland Sea Dogs for a six-game series. So far this season, Somerset is 5-1 against the Sea Dogs.
