Pequannock Advances Past Butler in North 1, Group 1 Girls Soccer

Pequannock – The Pequannock Panthers girls soccer team defeated the Butler Bulldogs 3-0 in NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1, Group 1 Tournament first round action at Pequannock Township High School.

The Panthers opened up the scoring just over two minutes into the contest to take an early 1-0 lead.  Pequannock would continue to control the ball for the majority of the half but was unable to find the back of the net for the remainder of the first 40 minutes.

Butler had a golden opportunity to tie the score late in the first half after a penalty in the box gave the Bulldogs an opportunity from the spot.  However, Angelina Major’s penalty kick hit off the crossbar and the score remained 1-0 going into halftime.

Pequannock again controlled the ball for the better part of the second half.  Unlike in the first stanza, however, the Panthers were able to capitalize on more of their opportunities, adding two goals to reach the final tally of 3-0.

Pequannock goal scorers were Gianna DeSimoni, Alex Ortega, and Shayla Osmanski.  Ortega, Briana Vetter, and Emily Zegler were credited with assists.  Panther goalie Emma Pieklo recorded seven saves in the shutout.

While she took the loss, Butler netminder Tori Coffey gave an admirable effort in goal registering 18 saves for the Bulldogs while being peppered with numerous shots.
