Red Bulls fall late against the Revolution

After their poor performance in our nation's capital, the New York Red Bulls looked to improve their play at home against another tough opponent in the Eastern Conference, but sadly the same issues have crept up again. After a strong opening 45 minutes the Red Bulls once again, fell to their opponents as they lose at home to the New England Revolution by a final of three goals to two.

In the 8th minute, Wiki Carmona got on the board as he ripped a beautiful ball from a couple of yards outside the Revolution area. When he received the pass Carmona, walked a few steps across and lashed a long-distance ball that splashed the back of the net, earning his first MLS Goal.

Then Tom Edwards who has been a helpful defender playing Center Back from his natural Fullback position found ways to stop the REvolution from getting a sniff at the net with some solid defense, but when the Revs did get shot on frame it either hit the woodwork or Carlos Coronel was there to make the save.

But once the second half began, things were getting a bit topsy turvy on the Red Bulls as they lost the lead, got the lead back, lost the lead, then lost the match. Gustavo Bou found himself wide open as he smashed a ball off the inside of the far upper corner of the net and in at the hour mark.

but it would be Fabio who go the lead back about three minutes later as he got a nice pass to force goalkeeper Brad Knighton to go the other way, while he half swung at the shot and slowly trickled harmfully inside the back of the net. Sadly the Red Bulls couldn't get a third as the Revolution found a way to take the full three points.

In the 84th minute, Brandon Bye headed in a well-placed cross by Carles Gil along the near side, that leveled the score at two, then Adam Buksa who couldn't buy a goal in this match finally earned the match-winner after the backline kept him onside inside second-half stoppage time. A strong start and a poor finish lost this one for the Red Bulls.

"Yeah, it is a horrible feeling right now. You know this is the same lesson over and over again. You know, how many times do we have to go through this before we can finish the game and it hurts a lot, the lesson is we can play well for 75%, 80%, 85%, 90% of the game, it has to be 100% of the game with our playing style at home," said Sean Davis, "This one really hurts, and it is hard to find the words right now, but it is not good enough and it is disappointing because we have dropped a lot of points and to give points away like we did tonight is a painful experience."

"It hurts more that we have to continue to go through the same lessons over and over again. It is on me as a leader of this team to help see out those games, so I look at myself first and it is just not good enough."

While Tom Edwards has filled in moving from his fullback position to a Center BAck, it's not enough when the attackers are taller than he is, and they can outjump him when they are inside the Red Bulls area converting chances, as the club is very low in the depth chart due to injuries.

"Yeah, it’s not so easy to find the right words after this game, especially with this result, in the brain, and now it’s very painful. Painful for me and for my boys. We invest big energy today, a big intensity. I think we create some very, very good moments for us, but in the end, we have some big learnings one more time."

"I think, yeah, it’s hard to say after the last games that we speak many times about learning and grow up, but right now, I think it’s big – the football business show us right now that, yeah, the bad face, and I think this is for the mental side, yeah, a big challenge, yeah, to show resilience and show big endurance in the brain for the next game," said Gerhart Struber,

"I think this is the only good one we can change our feeling on Wednesday, and yeah, I think many things only from the performance side go in a good way, but in the end on this level, it’s very, very hard for us at the moment to realize results in the right direction. That’s it for me."

The Red Bulls have a quick turn around as FC Cincinnati comes to town, and they need some help big time, if they are ever going to turn this thing around.
