Red Bulls fall to NYCFC on Castellanos goal

Tati Castellanos of NYCFC scored his 50th goal of the regular season, the only goal of the night, that led his team to victory over the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ on Sunday.

Both teams battled it out but ended the first half with NYCFC maintaining 69% possession of the ball compared to the Red Bulls 31%.  The Red Bulls may not have dominated possession but they did have more shots on goal in the first half ending with nine over the five that NYCFC produced.

The Red Bulls also finished the first half blocking three attempted goals as the boys in blue were hungry for their first goal.

Unfortunately, the Red Bulls would fall short in their expected victory at home in the 69th minute as the boys in blue caught the Red Bulls off guard and scored the game winning goal of the night.

“I don’t think they could get into the control moments that they wanted. I think we caused them a lot of problems,” said NYCFC  interim coach Nick Cushing.

Castellanos may have provided NYCFC with their winning goal, but the rumor of him being traded overseas still seems to have stayed alive. From rumors of him going to top South American clubs or even European clubs overseas, no one is certain where the golden boot winner will end up, but for now, he’s showing the MLS what he’s got and others watching, what he can offer.

“I feel a bit sad we couldn’t create a win in the end or a better result," stated Red Bulls coach Gerhard Struber. "But the group is young and the group is hungry.”

Both teams move forward as the Red Bulls will visit Austin on Sunday and NYCFC will play Inter Miami at home on Saturday.
