Red Bulls Fans Share Mixed Reactions After Season Opener

It was a different and unique game, the atmosphere was electric but the results were not encouraging. The New York Red Bulls lost 2-1 in their home and season opener against Sporting Kansas City.

Some Red Bulls fans believe that the team did not have a good result because the roster has a lot of new players and a new coach. “My friends …. Please calm down,” wrote Andrew Timoni, a New York Red Bulls supporter. “Most of the team is new. The coach is new. The system is new. They got TWO preseason games. Anyone using tonight to say the team is bad …. needs to seriously chill out."

Some fans supported his statement; but others didn’t think these were good reasons, instead they were just “excuses”. “Just stop with the excuses, first game, new players and all other bs,” wrote Bartosz Kowalski, a New York Red Bulls fan. “Kansas played without 4 best players… they played first game of the season.”

To be frankly honest the game was very closely contested. The boys in red ended up losing because of two big mistakes. The first half ended scoreless with the New York Red Bulls having 51% of the possession of the ball.

It was the 17-year-old young star, Caden Clark, who opened the scoreboard at minute 48’. His goal excited the fans and gave the home team the lead, but not for long. Ten minutes later, a handball in the box from Andrew Gutman led to a converted penalty, and a few minutes later Kansas City scored again.

Red Bulls Fans Happy to be Back

No one likes to lose, nevertheless the spirit was vibrant, because we are back at Red Bull Arena after a long year. 15% capacity, but little by little we are getting there.
