Rutgers @ Boston College - JSN Staff Makes Predictions

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights will open the 2022 football season on the road Saturday in Boston, Massachusetts against the Boston College Eagles. Kickoff is set for noon.

For Rutgers, they get an early season test in facing a quality caliber team on the road. For Greg Schiano and the Scarlet Knights, many questions remain, including who will be the starting QB. Rutgers has a roster with improved talent, but one that is quite young in many areas.

Some members of the staff at JSN have offered their predictions for Saturday's season opener.

Josh Meyers - Greg Schiano has a track record of winning the first game of the season for Rutgers but will have a tough matchup against Boston College. A quarterback tandem of Noah Vedral and Gavin Wimsatt will be utilized and it becomes evident that Wimsatt is Rutgers best chance of winning. Being aggressive and running a fast-paced offense will be the key for Rutgers. Wimsatt scores a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown while the defense holds Boston College quarterback Phil Jurkovec to only two touchdowns and even have one or two interceptions to help themselves earn the victory. Final score: Rutgers 27, Boston College 20

Nicholas Crochet - Saturday afternoon begins the 2022 season for Rutgers and Boston College, while both teams look to improve their records after a disappointing subpar 2021 season. Phil Jurkovec, the quarterback for Boston College, begins the season fully healthy, months after a hand injury that limited him for a majority of the 2021 season. Jurkovec, who is NFL caliber, will look to take advantage of a young Rutgers defense and defensive coordinator, Joe Harasymiak, who is making his Rutgers debut. Rutgers with new faces across the offensive and defensive teams will look to come to Alumni Stadium and put up a strong effort against an experienced Boston College offense. The first half will be a battle while both teams try to find the right rhythm. Jurkovec and wide receiver Zay Flowers will take over against an inexperienced Rutgers defense in the second half to pull away to start 2022 with a non-conference home victory over Rutgers. Final Score: Boston College 34, Rutgers 20

Josh Reinitz - In year 2, Schiano has his squad ready to take a step forward. They come out and surprise the Eagles and hold on late for the win. Final Score: Rutgers 24, Boston College 20

Gregg Snyder - A great matchup that will test Rutgers to open the season. I can't seem to come up with a true feel for what to expect from the Scarlet Knights this season. I think the future is bright, but are they ready to take the next steps yet? I thinks this comes down to the passing game of the Eagles. Strength against strength. If Rutgers D can get some pressure on the QB and the secondary can do a good job against the BC wideouts, the Scarlet Knights may have a chance to sneak away with the upset on the road. Final Score: Rutgers 24, Boston College 23
