Saint Peter's announces non-conference basketball schedule

After finishing third in MAAC play, the Saint Peter’s men’s basketball team fell to Fairfield in the semifinals of the MAAC Tournament in Atlantic City. During a challenging season due to COVID-19, Saint Peter’s finished 14-11 overall and 10-8 in MAAC play. In Shaheen Holloways’ third season at the helm, Saint Peter’s continued their rise in the conference as the team is considered a favorite in the MAAC for the 2021-2022 season.

On Thursday, the school announced its non-conference schedule for the upcoming season. As is tradition, the Peacocks will face New Jersey City University on Nov. 2 in the annual Battle of the Boulevard exhibition game at the renovated Run Baby Run Arena. The arena is part of a complete transformation of the Yanitelli Center, the school’s on-campus arena.

When the regular season begins, Saint Peter’s opens on the road traveling to face VCU of the Atlantic 10 conference on Nov. 9. They travel back to the Northeast to visit Carnesecca Arena to take on St. John’s in Queens. Last season the Peacocks played the Red Storm tough, eventually falling 76-75. Saint Peter’s ends their three-game road trip at Wagner before coming home to face LIU-Brooklyn in the regular-season opener at Run Baby Run Arena on Nov. 23.

Revenge will be sought when the Peacocks travel to Providence to face the Friars on Nov. 27. The last time these two teams played, Providence defeated Saint Peter’s, 68-47, in 2019.

After games at home against St. Francis Brooklyn and Nyack College, Saint Peter’s finishes their non-conference schedule on the road against Stony Brook (Dec. 18) and the third Northeast Conference foe on the schedule Fairleigh Dickinson (Dec. 22) in Teaneck. The game with FDU is a series that has been played every year 2011-12, excluding last season due to COVID-19.

Tip times have yet to be announced.
