Seton Hall’s Femi Odukale enters transfer portal

After just one year in South Orange, Seton Hall guard Femi Odukale will be entering the transfer portal for the second time. The junior guard who transferred to Seton Hall from Pittsburgh, was a major contributor for Seton Hall last season. Odukale played nearly 28 minutes a game for the Pirates, scoring over seven points per game.

Odukale ,who is from Brooklyn, was a starter for majority of his first season with Seton Hall. He started alongside his former high school teammate Kadary Richmond, who is the Seton Hall starting point guard. When Richmond went down with a back injury late in the season, Odukale slid into the starting point guard role. In the absence of Richmond, Odukale played his best basketball. He scored 19 points in a top-25 road win at Providence and scored 14 points in a narrow home loss to Villanova.

Odukale will now have to sit out a year, since this is his second time transferring. Seton Hall returns starting guards Kadary Richmond and Al-Amir Dawes, but the Pirates will now have to add depth to their back court. The only other guard returning who played any minutes for the Pirates last season is Jaquan Sanders. In Sanders freshman campaign he showed potential with an 11-point performance against Xavier, but logged under 10 minutes per game. Sanders will be expected to play a larger role in his sophomore season.

Seton Hall will rely on the transfer portal to add depth to their back court. The only other returning guards for the Pirates are JaQuan Harris and David Gabriel. Gabriel was a walk-on to the team last year and Harris missed his entire freshman campaign with a lingering knee injury.

Seton Hall hosted former Georgetown guard Jordan Riley on an official visit over the weekend. Riley is a sophomore guard from Brentwood, New York. Look for Riley and Auburn transfer guard Chance Westry as targets for the Pirates to add to their backcourt. Seton Hall has four open scholarships to fill and Shaheen Holloway will look to fill those needs in the transfer portal. Expect an update and a filled out Seton Hall roster in the coming weeks.
