Shore Conference Football Week Eight Recap By John Sorce

Shore Regional 41, Keyport 7

Four touchdowns from senior quarterback Gil Goldsmith led Shore to its sixth win of the season over Keyport. Goldsmith threw a 47-yard score to Shane McLaughlin and threw two touchdowns to junior Danny Kelly, going for 41 and 17 yards. He added a one-yard touchdown run for Shore as they entered halftime with a 34-0 lead. In the third quarter, McLaughlin and Kelly added touchdown runs of two-yards and seven-yards, respectively.

 

Marlboro 47, Matawan 14

Three touchdowns from senior quarterback Alex Schutzer led the Mustangs past the Huskies for their third win of the season. Schutzer scored on the ground from two yards out and then connected through the air for scores with Billy Delaney and Matt Budveit. Senior running back Dontrell Alston scored three touchdowns on the ground, coming from 56, 21 and 74 yards out. Vinny Spitalieri also had a 73-yard touchdown run.

 

Monmouth Regional 15, Asbury Park 14

Coming down to the game’s final seconds, Monmouth Regional walked off with a one-point win on a one-yard touchdown pass from Drew Faccone to Dayshawn Porter with two seconds left in regulation that tied the score, and Adam Varella's extra point gave the Falcons the victory over the Blue Bishops. Asbury Park had a 14-8 lead in the third quarter on a two-yard touchdown run by Junior Haughton, but they failed to convert the two-point conversion. Monmouth responded by driving 70 yards for the tying touchdown and winning extra point. Asbury Park took an 8-0 lead in the first quarter when Quadir Lawson scored on a 10-yard touchdown run and Basean Fraser ran in the two-point conversion.  Monmouth Regional answered when Faccone tossed an 11-yard touchdown pass to Javaughn Garcia and then caught the two-point conversion pass from Porter to tie the score at eight. Faccone completed 15-of-27 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns and Eli Rife led the Falcons in receiving with seven catches for 85 yards. Haughton led Asbury Park with 105 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.

 

Wall 20, Neptune 0

Wall used three rushing scores and a stout defensive effort to shut out Neptune and record its fifth win of the season. Senior quarterback Dylan Richey got Wall on the board in the second quarter with an 11-yard touchdown run and added a 5-yard scoring run with 5:24 left in the third quarter to extend their lead. Sophomore running back Casey Larkin scored on a 1-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter.

 

Saint John Vianney 41, Central 6

A trio of touchdown passes and one on the ground from junior quarterback C.J. Duell led the Lancers past Central Regional and improve to .500 on the season. Jaden Duncan, Zarrin Stephens and Andrew McGimpsey had receiving touchdowns, while Duell, Kavon Chambers and Evan Purdy picked up rushing touchdowns. For Central Regional, Troy Warren had a 66-yard touchdown run.

 

Pinelands 38, Keansburg 20

Pinelands utilized a strong ground game as senior running back Evan Burton ran for 168 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries and sophomore running back Nik DiLeo ran for 149 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries to lead the Wildcats past the Titans. Burton became the first player in program history to rush for 1,000 yards in three straight seasons, surpassing the 1,000 mark in the win.

Pinelands set the tone early as Jack Lawrie came down with an interception on the first play of the game. Senior quarterback Garrett Brown got the scoring going with a 13-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Andrew Jenkins and senior Sam Cardillo kicked a 37-yard field goal to give Pinelands a 10-0 lead. Pinelands then recovered an onside kick that set up Burton for a 12-yard score to make it 17-0. A touchdown run by DiLeo made it 24-0 and a Burton fumble recovery that was followed by DiLeo’s second score of the half, a 49-yard touchdown run, to give the Wildcats a 31-0 advantage. Pinelands out-gained Keansburg 253-7 in yards over the first two quarters.

 

Keansburg got on the board in the third quarter when senior quarterback Liam Riecks broke a 57-yard touchdown run. Isaiah Stanton then scored on a four-yard touchdown run to make it 31-12, but Pinelands responded with a scoring drive that Burton capped off with a six-yard touchdown run. Keansburg added the game’s final score when Riecks threw a 64-yard touchdown pass to Patrick Edwards.

 

Long Branch 40, Brick Memorial 14

Junior running back Jermaine Corbett’s five touchdowns led Long Branch to its seventh win of the season over Brick Memorial. Corbett score three rushing touchdowns going for 80, 30 and six yards, and caught touchdown passes from senior quarterback Marc Dennis for 11 and five yards. Latrell Bennett scored the Green Wave’s sixth touchdown on a fumble return. For Brick Memorial, senior quarterback Tyler Sindel had a 1-yard touchdown run and senior running back Jeff Lavarin had a 49-yard touchdown run.

 

Holmdel 31, Raritan 0

Holmdel shut out Raritan for its seventh win of the season thanks to the efforts of senior running back Dean Gallo and senior defensive back Alex Starr, who recorded two sacks. Holmdel set the tone early, recovering a Raritan fumble on the opening kickoff and turned it into three points on a 40-yard field goal by Alex Unanski. Later in the opening quarter, Tom Ammirati blocked a punt that was picked up by Evan Jennings and returned 27 yards for a touchdown, giving Holmdel a 10-0 lead. The lead grew to 17-0 when senior quarterback Jeff DeCicco dashed for a 44-yard touchdown run, and a three-yard touchdown run by Gallo late in the second quarter gave Holmdel a 24-0 halftime lead. Gallo returned the opening kickoff of the second half 88 yards for a score, giving the Hornets a 31-0 lead.
