Somerset Patriots pick up win against the Fisher Cats

On Tuesday, the Somerset Patriots returned home to face the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Blue Jays Double-A affiliate. It was a crazy game where the balls flew out the whole time as the Patriots beat the Fisher Cats 10-6. Fan attendance was excellent at TD Bank Ballpark, as they were engaged throughout the game. Starting pitcher Will Warren, the Yankees' 10th-best prospect, didn't have the command the team is used to seeing, but the offense backed him up big time.

Warren went 5 2/3 innings, allowing six runs (gave up three home runs), walking three walks and striking out five strikeouts to bring his ERA to 3.64 on the season. Tanner Myatt was the first pitcher out of the bullpen and picked up the win. He pitched 2 1/3 innings, only allowing one hit and two walks, along with a pair of strikeouts. Kaleb Cowart closed out the game as he pitched a perfect ninth inning. The Somerset Patriots bullpen did a great job keeping the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at six runs and giving the team a chance to win the game. Look for Warren to bounce back in his next start.

Yankees' top shortstop prospect Anthony Volpe had a big game at the plate as he went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a stolen base. Volpe has done a little bit of everything for the Patriots this season as he has a .255 batting average with 43 stolen bases, 17 home runs, 59 RBIs, 101 hits, and 67 runs In 396 at-bats.

Volpe was not the only Patriots player with a good game at the plate as they hit four home runs yesterday. Right fielder Elijah Dunham cracked the first homer of the game for the Patriots in the second inning to open the scoring. Second baseman Jesus Bastidas hit a two-run home run in the same inning to give the Patriots a 3-2 lead. Catcher Austin Wells hit a two-run home run in the next inning to extend the Patriots' lead to 5-2. Eric Wagaman homered in the bottom of the sixth inning, which was the go-ahead run for them in the game.

The Somerset Patriots are now 70-44 on the season and are looking to end the season on a hot streak.
