Somerset Patriots walk it off in their home opener

The Somerset Patriots walked it off in their home opener Tuesday night against the Erie SeaWolves, winning 2-1. In the bottom of the ninth, Brandon Lockridge hit the walk-off double scoring in first baseman Andres Chaparro. Lockridge also scored in the fifth inning thanks to a sac-fly by third baseman Max Burt.

Somerset struggled to get the bats going the entire game, only recording three hits in the first eight innings. However, their pitching staff pitched very well keeping them in the game. Anthony Volpe, in his first home game with Somerset, went 0-3 with three strikeouts and one hit by pitch.

Jhony Brito was the starting pitcher for the Patriots. In his first start of the season, he pitched very well going four innings, striking out four, giving up three hits, and walking one. In the second inning Brito got out of the inning stranding a runner on third. Then in the fourth, Brito struck out the side. Barrett Loseke earned his second win of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth inning and striking out two.

The Patriots are now tied for first in the Eastern League with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats with a record of 3-1. Somerset will continue their homestand Wednesday against the Erie Seawolves. The game is at 6:35 PM.
