Somerset Patriots Win Season Finale

The Somerset Patriots bounced back with a 6-3 win over the Portland Seadogs in the final game of season before the playoffs. This was a much better outcome than Saturday's game with the offense and pitching coming up clutch. The Patriots played great defense as they gave up no errors against Portland. The fans showed awesome support for the last game of regular season as they get ready for the playoffs. Somerset was locked in and motivated to end the season on a high note.

Yoendrys Gomez started the game for Somerset Patriots and pitched a good game. He went 4 1/3 innings, allowing only three hits and one run, while striking out seven 49 strikes, 75 pitches to improve his season era to 3.86. He was dealing from the beginning as the Portland Seadogs hitters couldn't pick up his pitches and his stuff was nasty. Gomez had a strong 2022 season for the Somerset Patriots as he is currently the 12th ranked prospect in the Yankees' system.

The Somerset Patriots' offense had the pitching staff's back as they scored six runs and hit four home runs in the game. Catcher Rodolfo Duran, outfielder Jasson Dominguez, third baseman Andres Chaparro and Jesus Bastidas all hit the home runs Sunday against the Portland Seadogs. They had a balanced offense, was able to work the count, force walks, get to the pitches they wanted and put pressure on the bases.

Yankees reliever Albert Abreu made his rehab outing for the Somerset Patriots as he pitched one inning and striking out two batters. His command looked great from the start as he was able to locate his pitches, worked quickly, threw strikes and was on the same page with the catcher. Abreu definitely needs a few more rehab outings before he can go back to New York, but his outing on Sunday showed his potential to help the Yankees this season.

Outfielder Harrison Bader took another big step towards his return to New York, which is Tuesday, by playing the whole game with great defense but went 0-for-5. The Yankees wanted him to play a few games in the outfield to see how he feels and passed the test big time. Tuesday can potentially be a huge day for Bader and the Yankees as he is expected to make his debut.

The Somerset Patriots finished the season on a high note with an 83-53 record, which is an amazing season as they kept the fans entertained the whole time. This team had a lot of great moments throughout the year, rehab assignments, call-ups from the Hudson Valley Renegades and players getting called up from here to Scranton Wilkes Barre like Anthony Volpe. Now the Patriots will get focused quickly as they get ready for the playoffs and try to win a championship.
