Thunder bounce back with a statement win over Black Bears

Tuesday's game was similar to Monday's game where both teams combined for a lot of runs, hits and walks, but the biggest difference was West Virginia having four errors in the game. The Trenton Thunder took advantage as they won 25-8. Pitching continued to be a struggle in the beginning for Trenton Thunder as the offense bounces back in a big way. A lot more fans were in the stands then Monday. They played great and clean baseball yesterday against West Virginia Black Bears that helped them.

Trenton Thunder had 45 total at bats, 25 runs, 20 hits, 23 RBIs, 11 walks and 10 strikeouts as an offense yesterday. They got to the West Virginia Black Bears pitching in the second inning, scoring five runs which gave them momentum. The Trenton Thunder scored six runs in the third inning.

Dilan Espinal went 3-for-6 with a home run, three runs scored, four RBIs, one walk and one strikeout. Damian Yenzi also homered as he went 2-for-3 with four runs scored, drove in four runs and was walked four times.  Josh Surowiec went 1-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI. Ben Newbert went 2-for-5 with three runs scored, three RBIs and two walks.

Ryan McCarthy was extremely productive as he went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, three runs scored and two walks. Jeff Manto also went 3-for-5 as he drove in three runs and scored twice. Another Trenton Thunder player who went 3-for-5 was Paul Coumolos and drove in four runs. Christian Merriwether tied Yenzi with a team-high four runs scored and also drove in a pair of runs. This offense was much better attacking the pitches early, working the count more, stealing bases and balanced the whole game.

Pitching for the Trenton Thunder was still an issue, but with the offense having their back it helped them towards the middle and end of the game. Tyler Arella made his first start yesterday, allowing seven hits, six runs, two walks and three strikeouts in 2.2 innings. Hunter Waldis picked up the win as he went 2.1 innings and allowed three hits, one run, two walks and one strikeout.

DJ Wilkinson struck out four in his two innings of work, but also allowed two hits and a run. Ryan Sandberg did not allow a hit or a run in his inning of work with three strikeouts and a pair of walks. Niko Leontarakis closed out the game as he allowed a pair of hits. The pitching was much better than Monday but still need to work on a few things.

With this win Trenton Thunder improve to 21-21 on the season, which is .500 ball, as they continue to play team baseball, push for the playoffs, stay focused and rest so no one gets injured. The new players they added after the draft are already making contributions and adjusting well to the team. Yesterday's win should give them momentum for today's game, but West Virginia Black Bears will be ready to play. The fan base supports this team no matter what happens, as the players said that the fans help them get pumped up, get ready for the game and they feed off from the crowd.
