Trenton Thunder Lose a Close One to Williamsport

On Wednesday, the Trenton Thunder fell short,6-4, against the Williamsport Crosscutters at home on Batman Bobblehead Night. It was a struggle on defense as Trenton committed three errors in the game. The Thunder fell to 26-32 on the season. Both teams combined for ten runs, 13 hits, and four errors. The Trenton Thunder used five pitchers throughout the game against Williamsport, while the Crosscutters used four.

The pitching for Trenton Thunder was not good at all, starting with William Saxton, who got the loss (1-3). He went three innings, allowing four hits, four runs (three earned), one walk and two strikeouts. Saxton now has a 6.00 ERA on the season. The pitching staff allowed eight hits, six runs (five earned), six walks and just three strikeouts. Williamsport took advantage of the mistakes and got the pitches they wanted. Thunder pitching did not have the command tonight as they hit a few batters.

Trenton's offense was good, scoring four runs as they attempted to chip away at Williamsport's lead but fell short at the end. They got walks and improved hitting with runners in scoring position as they were more consistent in the loss. They couldn't get that big hit to tie or take the lead. Every time the Trenton Thunder scored, Williamsport could extend the lead by one or two runs. This offense tried to swing for the fences by going after the low pitches, which didn't work. Overall, the offense was decent but always room to improve.

Williamsport's pitching was up and down against the Thunder. When the Thunder were trying to chip away, the Crosscutters could hold onto the lead. The offense scored six runs with timely hits, and their defense was fantastic. Shortstop Travis Holt made a nice diving catch for Williamsport to save a hit and potential run. They played all-around good baseball except for that one error this team gave up. The Thunder has to find a way to stop this offense and Travis Holt next game.

Sitting at 26-32 on the season, Trenton are still in a good spot as a team. They have to cut down on the simple mistakes, stay consistent, play their own game, take advantage of other teams and take it one game at a time. Every game is vital for the Trenton Thunder as they try to find a momentum swing to their season.

One player that stood out for Williamsport Crosscutters is shortstop Travis Holt who can do everything for them. He plays excellent defense, runs the bases well, hits the ball with high contact, and works the count sometimes.

Look for the Trenton Thunder to bounce back against Williamsport Crosscutters on Thursday night at Trenton Thunder Ballpark.
