Week 16 Preview: New York Jets vs Jacksonville Jaguars

Playoff hopes for the Jets lie in the balance of this game.

The Jets are playing in primetime as they face the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday Night Football. The Jets currently sit with a record of 7-7 and ninth place in the AFC. Winning their last three games will be critical as the Patriots, Chargers, and Dolphins are all lead the Jets. After losing to the Lions last week, the Jets are poised to make a playoff push. Here are my previews for this game.

What To Expect

QB Zach Wilson: Zach Wilson will be making his second straight start due to QB Mike White's rib injury. Wilson played well in last week's start throwing for 317 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.

Jaguars defense: The Jaguars defense is ranked  27th in the league in total defense. This should bode well for Zach Wilson's second big start.

A must win: The Jets have to capitalize on opponents like the Jaguars. On paper this should be an easy win, so the Jets can't get get caught on their heels. This is a must win.

Just The Facts

Jets have dominated over the Jaguars: In the last five meetings against the Jaguars, the Jets have won three out of the five including a 26-21 win last season (December 26th, 2021).

Jets have a shot at the playoffs: Believe it or not, the Jets still have a shot at the postseason. The Jets would need to win their next three games while the Chargers, Patriots, and Dolphins would all have to lose their next three games. It may sound like a long shot, but if the Vikings can come back from 0-33, then nothing is impossible.

The Jets' final home game of the season: Thursday Night Football will be the Jets' final regular season home game of 2022.

Five Big Questions To Ask

  1. Will The Jets take advantage of a Jaguars defense that isn't very good?
  2. Will Zach Wilson have another great game?
  3. Will the run game return to form?
  4. Will WR Garrett Wilson reach 1,000 receiving yards?
  5. Can the Jets end their losing streak?

The Injury Report

Out: QB: Mike White (Ribs)

Prediction: The Jets need to win their last three games of the regular season in order to make the postseason. Zach Wilson will play well, the defense will shut down Trevor Lawrence, and the run game will return.

Final Score: Jets 34 - Jaguars 16
