Yankees claim OF Jeisson Rosario off waivers from Boston

The New York Yankees claimed outfielder Jeisson Rosario from waivers on Saturday.

Jeisson was previously with the Boston Red Sox and will begin the season in Somerset. Rosario is 22-years old. He bats and throws left-handed. He began his career as a non-draft free agent signing with the San Diego Padres organization back in 2016. Rosario was later traded to Boston in 2020 in a deal that included Mitch Moreland heading to San Diego.

Rosario has played four seasons in the minor leagues and played in 387 games. In his minor league career, he has a batting line of .256/.366/.332. In those 387 games, Rosario had 358 hits, 129 RBI, 10 homeruns, 56 doubles, 10 triples, 225 runs, and 236 BB. Jeisson also has 48 career stolen bases in 77 attempts.

He has played every outfield position in his career.

During his short stint in Double-A Portland last season Rosario played in 98 games and in 345 at-bats he had 80 hits, 15 doubles, one triple, three homers, and 36 RBI. He had 11 stolen bases last season and his slash line was .232/.335/.307.

Rosario is not your average power hitter but he seems to be a good defensive outfielder. Last year, he had a fielding percentage of .954. He also has speed and has a good eye at drawing walks.
